Julio Olaya, MD

Board-Certified Anesthesiologist & Pain Medicine Specialist

Dr. Julio Olaya is a board-certified anesthesiologist with advanced fellowship training in pain medicine, specializing in spine intervention procedures. He joins Arkansas Spine and Pain with over two decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience in anesthesiology and pain management.

Originally from Mexico, Dr. Olaya earned his medical degree from La Salle University in 1986 and served as the sports medicine physician for the Mexican Tennis Federation from 1990 to 1993. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 2003 and went on to join the UAMS/Arkansas Children’s Hospital faculty as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Olaya has held academic appointments at both UAMS and Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he also practiced as a pediatric anesthesiologist and in critical care. His clinical experience includes serving at Freeman Hospital in Missouri and previously at Arkansas Spine and Pain from 2017–2021, before founding Pain Medicine Specialists of Arkansas in 2022.

Dr. Olaya is also a published author, contributing to the Rapid Review Anesthesiology Oral Boards (Cambridge University Press, 2013) on topics including pyloric stenosis and epiglottitis.

One of the few Spanish-speaking pain medicine specialists in Arkansas, Dr. Olaya is committed to making advanced pain care accessible to all patients.
